We are currently on the Exeter Uni Framework, working with Centerprise.

We have recently successfully completed the creation of two new Comms rooms in the Physics buildings working closely with all stakeholders of the building, project management, sub-contractors and inspectors.

We adhered to the requirements of the contract and subsequent amendments providing the desires of the University in a professional and flexible manner. From this experience, we bring to our work with the University a full understanding of the sensitive and complex environment of the Physics building specifically and the University as a whole.

Norbeck is one of the 3 subcontractors providing installation services for Cassidian on the LDCN network.

We have carried out countless successful installations on the LDCN network over the last 6 years. We liaise directly with the site C4I groups and site SCIDAs to ensure all works are guaranteed to achieve ECR5. We have gained good site knowledge and contacts during this time.

We have provided on-going installation and support for the university from a single additional outlet to rewiring the main Comms room. During this time we have:

• Introduced and implemented the TE (Krone) solution for the University.
• Designed and installed a computer room providing a 10Gig Cat6A TE (Krone) solution.
• For the last three years have been operating a rapid response break/fix contract alongside rapid response surveys and installations.
• Working night shifts and phasing works within time term whilst remaining adaptable to changing requirements.
• Successfully demonstrating our ability to work and build long term positive relationships by providing whole system solutions within a thriving occupied academic environment by learning what is of paramount importance to the working of the University.

The CIS enabling contract is run from MOD Corsham and allows MOD establishments to gain 3 quotes from separate suppliers – Centerprise, Fujitsu and BDC. As we are partnered with Centerprise we undertake all infrastructure elements.

The standard of work is above the standards of JSP440/480 thus allowing future federating for use on LDCN, Dii or any existing installation.

Any small task estimated by the customer at a value of below £5,000.00 is classed as a SIT task and can be given to a preferred contractor, this allows the continual growth of onsite relations.

Larger tasks engage all three MOD approved contractors for a site survey, it is then down to the establishment to choose the best value for money contractor and solution. Using the CIS contract can be funded on the P2P system.

Quiet Communication Cabinets

Norbeck were tasked with sourcing, supplying and installing an aesthetically pleasing noise reducing communications equipment cabinet. We specified the 24u UCoustic soundproof cabinet in wood affect.  

 We were successful with the quotation and installed both the infrastructure and active equipment for our customer.

The UCoustic 9210 range of quiet rack enclosures has been designed to house noisy 19″ rack-mounted equipment, such as servers, networking and audio equipment. By combining ultimate noise reduction with high thermal capacity, this range is a viable alternative to a costly dedicated comms room, by allowing the deployment of servers and network equipment directly in the office environment.This range of quiet rack cabinets will reduce equipment noise to a level below that of background noise in an average office without talking, whilst providing a thermal load capacity of 1.75 to 2.75 kW (dependent upon model).  

Also, the spacious internal dimensions provide ample room for orderly cable routing throughout the 9210 cabinet, with varied cable entry options to the bottom of the enclosure.  

The inclusion of a washable dust-filter, promoting extended equipment life-span and reduced maintenance costs, is optional throughout the 9210 range.

NAVYNET PROJECT

Synopsis:

Norbeck undertook the provision of (primarily) passive network cabling design and installation in support of the Navynet project (formerly REDACS) under Unisys Plc from the project’s inception in 1990 to late 2007.

Coverage of the system extended through the project timeline to all land based Naval establishments in the UK, with offshore installation being undertaken in Gibraltar and Germany. The UK coverage extended to all Naval related sites; Dockyards, Naval Bases, MoD offices, Royal Marines sites and MoD contractor sites.

Norbeck initially delivered category3 UTP cabling as the primary in-building system for the project, and through the project timeline undertook the global replacement of this with category5 UTP and STP variants, and the subsequent replacement again to category5e UTP and STP variants. Navynet still exists under the DII(C) banner today, in the advent of DII(F), as a ‘Legacy Restricted system bearer’.

The project included both initial large scale site installations and subsequent IMAC (Installation moves adds and changes) requirements throughout its timeline. In addition to the base requirement for passive network cabling, Norbeck provided a range of consultant level services to the project and both large and small scale electrical infrastructure design and installation.
